Prep A

In Prep the children are continuing to learn strategies for working out words when reading. Sounding out a word is one strategy but unfortunately it does not always work. It is important that children have a bag full of strategies to try out. When you are reading with your child at home, rather than helping them with an unknown word, ask: 'How could you work that out?' Have a look at the reading strategy posters below and use these as some suggestions as to how your child might work out a tricky word. Don't forget to as 'Does that make sense?' This will help your child self correct when they have made a mistake.
